Welcome To Terrebonne High School Library

Welcome To My Home Page

These few pages are dedicated to the former Librarians of Terrebonne High School.  Presented here is some of  the history of its library.  Terrebonne High School had it early beginnings next to Bayou Terrebonne in the Fireman's Hall in 1908.  The next year a building was erected on the site of the old Houma Elementary School which now is the Federal Building. Later in 1918 a high school, Houma High School, was built near the court house square at Goode and Point streets.  One room was set aside for a collection of books and thus a fledgling library was started.  It had no librarian and was used as a study hall.  As the school district's needs changed, these books were collected and sent to the English teachers classrooms. This was not an acceptable situation for a school that is the second SACS accredited high school in the state of Louisiana.

The First Librarian

In order to maintain Terrebonne's high standards a librarian, Kay Breeland, was hired in 1936.  On the basement, or ground floor, the collection of 730 books was combined, cataloged and enlarged to 1,674 books.
